Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more popular to mitigate vehicular pollution and realize a low-carbon society. EVs offer an alternative to hybrid and conventional vehicles through the use of electric motor drive without diesel/petrol consumption. To address the above-mentioned problem, there is an urgent need for an alternative, sustainable and green mobility solution. Yet there are some challenges to overcome for EVs. Among the different challenges and reasons, the high upfront cost of EV, range anxiety, especially due to the lack of charging stations and charging time pose significant barriers to scale up electric mobility. Some of the major activities of the area are as follows:
- Development and demonstration of EV Retrofit Kits for electric conversion of in-use (BS-II & BS-III) diesel/petrol vehicles into Electric Vehicles
- Studies and development of a Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) for EV Application
- Studies and development of hybrid power system for EV Charging and Battery Swapping Station
- Studies on Super-capacitors for EV application
- Energy consumption and performance studies for EVs
