Institute has been working on a diversified range of additives to meet the challenges of lubricants industries due to stringent environmental regulations, drive towards energy efficient machinery, and to extend the drain intervals. The focused research themes –
Nanostructured Layered Materials: Long-term dispersibility of nanostructured layered materials viz. graphene, h-BN, MoS2 nanosheets in a diversified range of lubricants for enhancement of friction and wear properties.
Halogen-free Ionic Liquids: Design and synthesis of halogen-free ionic liquids targeting the engineering surfaces and lube base oils for enhancement for tribological properties. The corrosion-inhibition, viscosity index improver and PPD characteristics of ionic liquids are explored to expand the potential of ionic liquids as multifunctional additives.
Aging of Lubricants: Diversified range of lube base oil and fully formulated lubricants are being studied to explore the thermal and tribo-stress-induced oxidation events for the formulation of new antioxidants.
