Integral growth in natural gas and natural gas liquid feedstock’s available for the chemical industry worldwide has forced to change feedstock form crude to natural gas. This phenomenon potentially makes opportunities for new technologies with cost-competitiveness compare to traditional chemical manufacturing routes. CSIR- Indian Institute of Petroleum has the state-of-the-art infrastructure and knowledge base related to catalyst and process for petrochemicals and speciality chemicals. The focus of our research lies at the interface of heterogeneous catalysis and process engineering. We apply a broad range of synthetic, spectroscopic, and reaction engineering tools to study the chemical transformation of the low-value stream to high-value products. A strong emphasis is placed on furthered projects like the alternate production of light olefins, aromatics. All projects are aimed at addressing current issues and tackling relevant problems associated with alternative petrochemicals, renewable chemicals, and novel catalyst design.
So far, a network model for the effect of an alternative aromatics and olefins technology on the industry’s structure has been analyzed. The preliminary results show how selectivity of aromatics/ olefins from the newly developed catalysts and the process is related to the cost-economics when the process is likely to be introduced. We encourage organizations from academia and industries worldwide to collaborate to explore advanced research in the field of petrochemicals.
