Chemical conversion area is mainly focused on the transformation of oils, fats, and third generation microalgal feedstocks to biofuel, bio-lubricants, multifunctional additives, value-added chemicals and intermediates by chemical as well as enzymatic routes. This area has successfully completed various projects funded by different organizations such as Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Coconut Development Board (CDB), Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and also with an International collaboration under DST-UKIERI program.
We have developed processes for biodiesel production as well as potential bio lube products from synthetic and renewable sources for various automotive, industrial and Micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) applications. This area is well equipped with state-of-art research facilities for transformation and analysis of bio-based feedstock and products.
