Fuel Testing Laboratory (FTL) is located at Noida and registered as Society For Petroleum Laboratory (SFPL). It was set up by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India in compliance to the directives of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for establishing an independent testing laboratory. The aim of FTL is to check the quality of automotive fuels in the national capital territory/region (NCT/NCR) in order to minimize the vehicular pollution.
The operation and management of Fuel FTL at Noida is outsourced by SFPL to CSIR- Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP). FTL conducts frequent tests on the fuel samples, viz. petrol, diesel and kerosene oil against their respective Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications. The samples are drawn and submitted to FTL Noida by Government Enforcement Agencies and PSU Oil Marketing Companies from around the NCT/NCR.
