About

The ICP-AES, AAS and Electron Microscopy area is an important part of the division that provides analytical support to various projects by undertaking trace metal analysis through inductively coupled plasma based atomic emission spectroscopy and atomic absorption spectroscopy. The morphological analysis of materials are carried out through scanning electron microscopy.

The Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer (ICP-AES) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) are multi- and single element detection techniques respectively. They are used for the determination of metals in petroleum and its products like crude oil, fresh & used lubricating oils, catalyst samples, vegetable oil, transmission oils, furnace oils, bio-oils, lighter petroleum products etc. Metals and non-metals can be analyzed in ppm/ppb range with these facilities.

The Scanning Electron Microscope with ED-EBSD System (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDAX) produces enlarged images of a variety of specimens, achieving magnifications of over 100,000x providing high-resolution imaging in a digital format. This important and widely used analytical tool provides an exceptional field of view, minimal specimen preparation, and the ability to combine the technique with X-ray microanalysis. Usually, all solid samples can be studied but most of the samples are catalyst samples. The microorganism can also be studied under low vacuum mode also called Environmental mode. Tribological studies such as worn track examination after four ball test can be done.
