The work of Research Planning and Project Monitoring (RPPM) Division is to plan and monitor the research projects of the Institute. The main aim is to plan new/novel areas for research in line with the need of future refining and energy industry. It has also the responsibility of providing the required infrastructure and services to all the Research Divisions in support of their programmes. To carry out this task, the Division operates through four independent working areas namely, Research Planning, Project Monitoring, Information Technology and Technical Directorate.
The monitoring and evaluation is done to ensure timely completion of the projects and ongoing collection of data against pre-decided milestones. To assess whether a project has achieved its intended goals or not, it becomes necessary to track progress as a basis for making decisions and identifying short comings and to take corrective action.
Monitoring/reviewing is a continuous process whereas evaluations are carried out at specific intervals (milestone bases) during the course of the project. The effective management ensures that the project goals are achieved as per the quality requirements on schedule and within budget allocation.
The institute undertakes contract R&D viz. Sponsored, Collaborative and Grant-in-Aid Projects and also Consultancy projects funded by the external agencies. The Division is involved in the management of these projects. The appropriate dissemination of information regarding these projects to the management as well as the concerned Scientists is done by RPPM Division.
RPPM Division also keeps track on the status, expenditure and budget allocations of all the externally funded projects and ensure that the concerned project leader is fully informed for the expectations of the management.
