About

Spectroscopy area in CSIR-IIP provides molecular level information through qualitative and quantitative analysis of molecules. Various research laboratories are using the facility and technical service for studying structural chemistry, molecular interactions, process chemistry and structural transformation of the compounds/molecules of research interest. UV-Vis Spectroscopy is mainly used to study structural aspects of unsaturated molecules. The naphthalene content in ATF petroleum samples are estimated by ASTM 1840 method using UV Vis spectrometer. FTIR spectroscopy is mainly used to provide information about functional groups type analysis in various organic and inorganic research samples. NMR is spectroscopy is used for structure determination, often required for structure confirmation and checking purity by organic chemists. Standard test method for aromatic carbon and protons in petroleum samples are determined as per the ASTM D5292 test method. Multinuclear and multidimensional NMR spectroscopy facility is also available in the institutes along with solid state NMR facility. Solid State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is a specialized characterization technique used to determine chemical composition or structural properties in a variety of industrially relevant solid materials like catalysts, polymers pharmaceutical solids, drugs those are insoluble in any types of solvents.
In the area, samples like kerosene, gas oil, mineral oil, lubricating oils, petroleum distillates, waxy samples, polymer sample, biomass derived samples, biooil, bio lubricant, bio-additives, ionic liquids, pigments, yeast oil and synthetic organic compounds are tested and analyzed . Thus, booking of instrument should be done in advance
